On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Croatia and India, the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb organized the “Drawing Marathon ‘22” event in cooperation with the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi and the Embassy of India in Zagreb. The event took place simultaneously on the premises of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Lalit Kala Akademi on 18 February 2022 and was live-streamed from both New Delhi and Zagreb.
Together with their mentor-professors, students of both institutions interpreted the Indian and Croatian cultural imagery through various drawing techniques and formats, within the specific and intensive, eight hours long, time frame. Mentor-professors for Zagreb students were Assoc. Prof. Gordana Bakić and Assoc. Prof. Danko Friščić.
The “Drawing Marathon” series of events started in 2013 as an extra-curricular activity of the Academy’s Art Education Department. The idea behind the event was the introduction of new drawing methods and wider range of materials in the drawing process. In addition, the event took place continuously for twenty-four hours, which made it substantially different than regular classes. It was immediately recognized as a distinct opportunity for creative gathering and collaboration and has since continued as a yearly event.
